About Kate Allyn Prosthetic Research

Kate Allyn is an ABC-certified and Washington State licensed prosthetist and orthotist with more than 24 years of experience dedicated to improving the lives of people who use prosthetic and orthotic devices. Throughout her career, she has worked in private clinical practice, academic research, higher education, and international outreach, always with the same goal: to improve comfort, fit, function, and quality of life for every patient. Her work combines hands-on clinical expertise with a passion for innovation, ensuring that new technologies are grounded in the real needs and experiences of the people who use them.

As the founder of Kate Allyn Prosthetic Research, LLC, Kate leads research focused on advancing prosthetic care through evidence-based innovation. She currently serves as Principal Investigator on an NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award developing a novel pediatric prosthetic foot designed to improve mobility and active play for children with limb loss. In addition to leading her own research program, Kate has spent nearly two decades supporting prosthetics research at the University of Washington, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to translate scientific discoveries into practical clinical solutions that improve patient care.

Kate is recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists (FAAOP) and has served in numerous leadership roles, including President of the Academy. She is also an inventor on multiple patents related to prosthetic socket fit and limb volume management, reflecting her longstanding commitment to advancing the profession through research and innovation. Whether working alongside researchers, clinicians, manufacturers, or individuals with limb loss, Kate is driven by a belief that the best solutions come from collaboration, thoughtful design, and a deep understanding of the people they are intended to serve.
